World Carfree Day Rally: No Tunnel, Freeway and/or Tollroad
Saturday 22 September
Is this the best bus stop in the world (library bus stop, Bolivia)?
Yarra Campaign for Action on Transport (YCAT) in association with the Coalition of Transport Action Groups (CTAG), Protectors of Public Lands (PPL) and residential groups from east to west is coordinating a protest rally on World Carfree Day (WCD).
This is an important opportunity to send a clear message to the state and local government, along the proposed route, that the community wants the Doncaster Rail and not a freeway.
It will be huge!
The rally will open with four formal speakers (to be advised) and this will be followed by an “open mike session” – giving local residents and concerned community members the opportunity to tell the state and federal governments how the proposed East-West Link freeway will impact on their lives, their homes and their community. Stay tuned for updates.
Rally Details:
Date: Saturday (WCD) 22 September
Time: 10.45am for 11am start
Location: Public Open Space, corner of Nicholson Street and Alexandra Parade

All for East-West Link, what is so bad about de-bottlenecking, for our transport industry, the reserves allocated for this freeway/tunnel have been planned for years, i’m surprised this is new to people.
James – do you have any proof about this so-called de-bottleknecking? So far, every single new freeway project built in Melbourne has promised an easing of traffic congestion, but has delivered the opposite.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. Our city “planners” are insane.
More freeways result in more cars on the roads. That’s taught in first year traffic and transport engineering. Freeways cause traffic problems, they don’t solve them. That’s a fact.
Getting cars off the road by improving public transport (like building the Doncaster Rail Line) and increasing active transport will solve traffic problems. That would be good for everyone, including people who drive.
